elegant proof

"Gregory Bateson has clearly shown that what he calls the 'ecology of ideas' cannot be contained within the domain of the psychology of the individual, but organizes itself into systems or 'minds', the boundaries of which no longer coincide with the participant individuals."

Felix Guattari [trans. Pintar & Sutton], the three ecologies (London: Continuum, 2000) p54

good question Ames. i have too much to say about it, so will write a post instead. i think i referenced it as it has the tautological tendons of mediating its own espousal: it asserts itself by asserting another. what are your thoughts on this?

i guess yea, ideas do give rise to physical phenomenon and then the reverse and so on. but physical things aren't ideas themselves... i like making myself think about this. it's like an old angle on a new question.

cause i'm interested in something parallel to a collective unconscious or a cloud of shared ideas that we all buy into. that seems to 'exist' but does it physically manifest itself anywhere, as a sole entity? does the collective unconscious cloud live anywhere?

ha! i'm loathe to even say her name, but it looks like Lady Gaga is trying for it. but nowhere near this postal code, which is almost celebrated here.. think that's one of the questions bonding my recent interests to architecture. like an intentional sediment of culturally affected time. otherwise, in abstract structures, perhaps history? or the Time? the internet, if it's a place, seems to have become a model for it as well, like a weathercock for revolution in all its forms; it's been fairly resilient to top-down social engineering and propaganda.
